Need something soft, luscious, maybe a little stinky for your weekend cheese plate? Look no further than this cider-washed wheel from the UK.

Yarlington is a small washed rind cheese made in Gloucestershire by David Jowett. Inspired by French washed rind traditions, these lovely little wheels are washed repeatedly with brine and then finished with a cider wash made from local apples by nearby cidery Yarlington Mill. Yarlington is a lovely bit of gastronomic fusion, using British ingredients to make a French inspired cheese. Expect a rich paste beneath the thin rind, with notes of cooked ham and dried apples.

There’s only a few wheels of Yarlington in stock, so be sure to claim one ASAP. Have a great weekend!

SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY! Stop by Milkfarm this Father’s Day for a Meet the Maker with one of our favorite cheesemakers: Quesos Navarro!

Producers of an assortment of traditional Mexican cheeses, Quesos Navarro is the first Mexican creamery to export cheese to the US. Their cheese is highly acclaimed; they’ve won awards from the American Cheese Society, the World Cheese Awards, and the Mundial Do Queijo Do Brasil.

They’ll be stopping by to grill up some of their delicious panela, a fresh cheese with a dense, unmeltable texture. Similar to paneer or bread cheese, it can be grilled without melting into goo. It’s a delicious treat and you can try some this Sunday, June 21st from 11am-2pm!

The oldest cheese in the shop? Surprisingly, it’s not the dry, crumbly wheels you see at room temperature. Our goudas average around 18 months of aging and most wheels of Parmigiano we receive are a little over two years old.

The true Old Man of the Cheese Case comes from Wisconsin: Hook’s 10 year Cheddar!

While it may look like a wedge of orange supermarket cheddar, this cheese is anything but. The texture is totally different, strikingly dense with a distinct flake. The paste is chock full of massive calcium lactate crystals; you can often feel them poking out of the cheese. The flavor is the biggest difference, not mild and tangy but bold and almost bittersweet, with notes of baking chocolate and toasted bread.

This cheese has been patiently aged by the fine folks at Hook’s cheese in Mineral Point, WI. Their cheddars are the nation’s gold standard, and you’ll always see their 2 year cheddar in the shop (we need it for our world famous grilled cheeses). If you get the chance to try any of their other cheeses (including their World Cheese Championship winning Colby), don’t hesitate.

Beaufort is back! This stunning French cheese is made in massive wheels, standing nearly 8 inches tall and clocking in at 90 pounds! Milkfarm receives more manageable wedges that still are a sight to behold.

This particular wedge is being sliced up for members of our monthly cheese club, and they’re getting something special this month! This is a wedge of Beaufort Alpage, meaning the milk for this wheel was taken from cows that were grazing on open pasture in alpine meadows. The meadow is full of a diverse range of grasses, herbs, and flowers and everything the cow eats is reflected in the milk. As a result, Alpage wheels are exceptionally flavorful and often have a spectrum of flavors that couldn’t be achieved without that unique meadowland diet.

A delightful alternative to Gruyère or Apenzeller, Beaufort melts well and is perfect for cooking, but with a cheese this special, we must insist you taste some as is first. We’ve been sampling it ourselves since yesterday and wow. What a cheese!

You can expect equally delightful options every month by joining our cheese club! It makes a great Fathers Day gift! The link to register is in our bio.

Don’t get it twisted…leave that to the pretzels. Tomorrow only, we’ll have freshly baked pretzels for sale!

Made by our friend and local baker Colleen, these Guinness Brown Sugar pretzels are some of the best we’ve ever had: chewy, hearty, with that iconic brown crust and a lovely hand twisted shape. The sugar doesn’t make these pretzels sweet; it contributes to the browning and adds a delicate carmelized character to the dough. The jumbo sized salt crystals provide pops of salinity and a gentle crunch. Pick up a bottle of mustard and you have an afternoon snack for the ages.

Trust us…you want one of these. Really you do. Stop by tomorrow and grab one before they’re gone! We especially encourage our Cheese Club members to claim one when they pick up their cheese…included in this month’s drop is three (3!) jars of one of our new fave condiments: Drippy Cheese Dip! Perfect for dunking, these pretzels and a jar of Drippy are a match made in snack heaven.

Be still my heart! Is it true?

…could it be…

is it finally…….

TOMATO TIME!? 🍅🍅

You bet it is! We’re a week away from the first day of summer and our good friend Alex has graced us with the first batch of his homegrown organic tomatoes.

As regular customers may remember from last year, we’ll have a little display of freshly picked tomatoes available throughout the season. The perfect pairing for any number of things from our shelves, Alex’s tomatoes are grown here in Eagle Rock, right in his backyard (yup, he had his backyard garden organically certified…Alex does some serious gardening). He’s named his garden Dahlia Farms (like the nearby street!) and he’s got over a dozen varieties growing.

The types of tomatoes will vary as the fruit ripens, so expect to see an assortment of heirloom tomatoes in various colors and sizes. HAGS!

There’s been a lot of changes to the California cheesemaking landscape over the years, and it’s why we’re always excited to see a new cheesemaker on the scene, contributing to California’s rich history of cheesemaking.

Founded in 2023, Mt. Eitan Cheese is based in Sonoma County, and makes a range of delicious cheese from locally produced goat and cow’s milk. The founder, Omer Seltzer, is the son of one of Israel’s most acclaimed cheesemakers and he’s continuing his family’s legacy here in the states.

We’ve been carrying Mt Eitan’s Tome, a weighty wheel of goat cheese that’s a bit like an alpine cheese with an extensive natural rind. It’s fantastic stuff: creamy and herbaceous with a lactic brightness that shines brilliantly against the earthy rind. Mt. Eitan’s Tome is an excellent example of California cheesemaking, and we’re excited for you to try it. Hope to see you in the shop this weekend!

Goat cheese? Blue cheese? Yes please! Get the best of both worlds with a wedge of Black and Blue from Firefly Farms!

Located in Western Maryland, Firefly Farms has been making exceptional goat cheese for nearly 20 years. They partner with local farmers, paying them fairly and encouraging them to let their dairy goats lactate on a natural cycle, instead of forcing them to produce milk constantly throughout the year. Firefly turns this high-quality milk into a range of goat cheeses, including one of the only goat blues out there: Black and Blue!

Buttery and rich but with that unmistakable goaty tang, this blue has a nice natural crumble, making it perfect for scattering over salads or flaking into dressings and dips. If you’re a blue lover but a goat skeptic (or vice versa!) be sure to give this wheel a try.

As much as we love the wide range of cheese from Europe, there’s lots of cheese being made all around the world! Colonization and cultural exchange gave many countries unique cheesemaking traditions. We’re always on the lookout for some exceptional cheese, so we’re excited to have some blocks of Menonita in the shop from Quesos Navarro!

Quesos Navarro is the first Mexican creamery to export cheese to the US. Founded in 1961 by Don Alberto Navarro Cruz and Doña Soledad González, Quesos Navarro is located in Los Altos de Jalisco, a region long famous for dairy production. The company began exporting cheese in 2019, and their acclaim has grown as people outside of Mexico get to know their wonderful cheeses.

Menonita gets its name from the Mennonite communities of Chihuahua that introduced this cheese to the country. It’s a medium-firm melting cheese, comparable to a mild cheddar or Monterey Jack. It’s a kid friendly option for a cheeseboard, and a great cheese to cook with. It’s the perfect cheese to stuff inside chile rellenos, stir into a casserole, or grate on top of a bowl of chili.
