This email is going to have a lot of information and I will try not to confuse you!

Hey Y'all,

First off, thank you thank you thank you to everyone who came out to the markets for Super Bowl weekend! It was a lot of work, but we managed to make through another year! Also, because of the weekend expansion with the delivery apps, I have been missing seeing your lovely faces. I hope that once things stabilize, I can physically get back to meeting the people. I love you guys so much!

The Kaiser WLA Farmers Market is off again this week due to the ongoing labor strike. I hope that a deal can get done asap so that we can back to slinging that bbq for you. Uggh!

We will not be at the La Cienega Farmers Market this Saturday. It is Valentine's Day and I have a wife. Nuff said!

We will be at the Beverly Hills Farmers Market on Sunday, February 15. In addition to Valentines Day, it's the start of Mardi Gras/Carnival. As such, we will be serving up our famous Chicken and Beef Sausage Gumbo. Everything is made from scratch (uggh) and it contains no pork or tomatoes. I make the sausage myself from scratch and it is made with the same prime beef brisket that you know and love. My gumbo also contains okra,. C'est bon!

Monday February 16 at 8:40pm, I will be on Fox11LA as part of their Black Heritage Month Celebration. If you're available, check it out.

We're also back to being available on the DoorDash and Grubhub apps Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Back By Popular Demand!

Hey Ya'll,

Just a reminder that the Kaiser WLA Farmers Market will be closed today due to a strike. We hope to be back next week with all of your favorites!

Starting Saturday, we will be serving up your favorite pork rib sandwich that I've dubbed the McDowell Sandwich. It is made from pork and is completely from scratch. This will be version 2.0 and they will be more rib like and less sausage like. I grind up rib trimmings and form them into patties by hand. It took me and Daniel 5 hours to make them yesterday and my shoulders are worn out! They'll be served topped with pickles and onions on a Kaiser bun. Be sure to slather it down with some of my housemade sweet bbq sauce!

We started last weekend and I don't remember if I told you, but we are now on DoorDash and Grubhub. We are open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11am-8pm. If you're in our delivery area, check it out. Just a heads up, the prices are higher there than anywhere else. Gotta combat that third party commission. Pickups are more in line with my regular farmers market prices.

Superbowl Orders:
Get your Superbowl orders in by Thursday February 5! Email your orders to [email protected].

We’re Live on DoorDash!

The Kaiser West LA Farmers Market will be closed this Thursday due to a labor strike. This strike has said that it will continue indefinitely, so I’ll keep you updated as next week’s market status.

We’re now live on DoorDash every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. A note about those prices, those delivery apps take a huge commission, so I’ve adjusted my prices on the apps accordingly. Gotta do what ya gotta do. If you live near Lincoln Heights, and don’t mind picking up your order, the prices will be 30% lower, and you can call us direct at 323-915-3683. We should also be on Grubhub by the weekend.

Check out Black Cat BBQ on DoorDash!

Super Bowl Catering pickups:
Unfortunately, neither of my 2 favorite football teams, the Denver Broncos and LA Rams, made it to the big game, but I’ll be watching regardless. :(

Superbowl pickups can be made on Saturday 2/7/26 at the La Cienega Farmers Market or on Sunday 2/8/26 at the Beverly Hills Farmers Market. The delivery apps will be offline that weekend. Email your orders to [email protected] by Thursday 2/5/26. No preorders will be accepted after that date. No exceptions. Meaning, if you don’t have a preorder that’s also been prepaid by Thursday, 2/5/26, you will have to stand in line and hope for the best. I also will NOT be responding to any orders sent through text message. I’m too busy for that nonsense.

Superbowl Menu
Smoked Chicken Wings $25/dozen
Prime Beef Brisket $42/lb
Pork Spareribs $42/Rack
Pulled Pork $28/lb

It's Football Playoffs Season

and You Know What That Means!

Hey Ya'll,

Now that we're done with the rain (for now), I'm back in BBQ mode and that means specials specials specials. For my Thursday market at the Kaiser Permanente WLA, I'll be bringing back an old favorite. Pork Rib Tips are back on the menu. You Century City folks might remember this one from before the pandemic. You can purchase 1/2lb for $13, make it a snack pack for $16, or make it a meal for $26. Get em before their gone!

This weekend, at the La Cienega Farmers Market on Saturday and the Beverly Hills Farmers Market on Sunday, I'll be serving Smoked Chicken Wings. The wings are seasoned with lemon pepper and come with sauce on the side. That means you can sauce them however you like when you get home! They'll be priced 6 for $18 and 12 for $30. The wings will only be sold in quantities of 6 and 12. So, don't come asking for an order of 9 wings.

Superbowl Preorders:

February 8 is Superbowl Sunday and I will be accepting preorders for that weekend's markets. When making your order, please specify whether you would like to pick up on Saturday or Sunday.

Superbowl Menu

Smoked Chicken Wings 6/$18 12/$30
Prime Beef Brisket $42/lb
Pork Ribs $42/Rack
Pulled Pork $28/lb

Sides $18/Quart

Orders must be paid by Thursday 2/5/26. Email your orders to blackcatbbqla@gmail. Call (don't text) 213-477-3676 for any questions.

We got rain in the forecast and as such, we will not be at the Beverly Hills Farmers Market tomorrow. The rain looks like it will be letting up by Monday, so we will be at all of our other markets. I apologize and I hope to see you next Sunday.

This is going to be a long email, so brace yourself!

Real quick, the Kaiser WLA (Thursday) and La Cienega Markets (Saturday) are closed this week

This is going to be a long rambling, manifesto style email. So, if I manage slip all the way into madness in 2026, you can point to this email as the beginning, I'm kidding. Anywhoo....

First things first. I only made it through another year with your help. Whether you had me cater an event for 150, or you bought a single snack pack. You are the reason that I continue to do this. Without you, there is me. It sounds like a cliche, but that is the real McCoy! You and your patronage is what keeps me in business. And, I'm going to share this. I have majorly screwed up some of your orders this year and you guys have continued to buy from me. And to top it off, you guys don't even allow me to give you an apologetic discount. Holy smokes, you guys are awesome! In 2026, I will continue to get better with your continued grace and support.

2025 was a really tough year, I imagine, for all of us. The year started with the devastating wildfires and ended with a tornado in East LA. I know that some of you reading this were directly effected by the fires and my heart continues to break for you. Take note, if you haven't already taken advantage, I offer a discount to everyone who has been displaced by the Palisades and Altadena fires.

Over the course of the year, I said goodbye to the Westwood and Cedars Sinai Farmers Markets and and said hello to the Culver City, Kaiser WLA, and La Cienega Farmers Markets. Working with Cynthia, Sean, Al, and Ursula has been awesome and I look forward to helping turn those markets into a monster. LET'S GO!!!

The Beverly Hills Farmers Market said goodbye to Evan Doyle as the manager and welcomed Andrew DeLeon as the new boss. I look forward to working with Andrew in the future to continue to drive that foot traffic. I've got some crazy specials swirling in my head. I hope I can figure out how to bring some of them to life. Side note, I have some genuinely crazy ideas that I want to try. It's about to get weird ya'll!

Some of my personal successes. I had over 20 friends and family visit me from out of town. It's always a blessing when folks make the effort to track me down in a huge city that they don't know. Some folks actually showed up at markets completely unannounced. Some of you guys have witnessed me screaming like a child at the sight of some of these folks. Sorry for the screaming. But then again, I sometimes scream when I see you folks who I see every week, so you're probably used to it by now.

In November, I was again invited to participate in the LA Wine and Food Festival. That is a huge honor to be counted in a group of the city's top culinary talent. Whenever I get asked to do something fancy, I always ask "How the heck did you find me?" Hopefully some more people find me next year!

Onto the new year. Starting in the next few weeks, we will be taking the leap into the world of third party delivery apps. I will let you know when this happens, but soon, you will be able to get my food more than 4 days a week. As well, I will be joining Goldbelly, which is a mail order company that will ship my food nationwide. I will be getting some new merchandise designed for purchase. Including, T-shirts, sweatshirts, aprons, bottled sauces, rubs, and sausage. Side note, if any of you guys have experience with mail order fulfillments, I need your help desperately!

In closing, I just want to thank you again for reading this mess and supporting me and my silly little business. I love you and I look forward to serving you well into the future!

Market schedule for the next 7 days:

The La Cienega Farmers Market at 18th St is cancelled for today. We’ll see y’all next Saturday aka next year.

The Beverly Hills Farmers will be open tomorrow and we will be there. We will have our famous Black Eyed Peas on the specials menu. It’s a southern new year’s tradition and it’s delicious. I’ll explain the significance later in this email.

The Culver City Farmers Market will be open on Tuesday 12/30/25 and we will be there. We will have the Black Eyed Peas on the specials menu.

The Kaiser WLA Farmers Market will be closed on Thursday 12/1/26 aka New Years Day. Well will be back the following week, and I’ve got something special, just for you guys!

Story time:
Growing up in a southern family, I was made aware of a lot of superstitions. Don’t stir with a fork. Don’t walk around with 1 shoe on. Don’t wear a hat indoors. Don’t split a pole. Those are all to avoid bad luck. The one superstition that was all about good luck, was eating black eyed peas and collard greens on New Year’s Day. How it works, the black eyed peas represent pennies and the collard greens represent “green backs” or cashola. The idea is that if you eat these items on the first day, your year will be filled with lots of good luck and lots of money.

My parents are from South Carolina, so the culinary tradition is black eyed peas and collard greens. I went to college in Louisiana, and the tradition there is black eyed peas and cabbage. What are some of your family’s New Years traditions/superstitions?
