Yesterday we celebrated our dad’s 60th birthday. He has come a long way and still has so much fight in him. We want to thank everyone who has been patient with our family and especially with our mom at the Snack Shop these past few months - mama is doing her best to keep doing what she loves, which is to serve the community and also see our dad daily while he continues to recover. Our dad sends his “hello” to everyone.

Good Morning Community,

We want to send our continued gratitude to everyone who continues to ask how Nicolas is doing and continue to pray for his recovery.

We are happy to share that our dad has not only come out of his coma, but he is strong and showing good signs of responsiveness. Here are a few things that he's been able to do since mid-last week:

• Give us a thumbs up
• Answer yes and no questions by nodding his head
• Hold our hands tight and give us a hug.
• Sit on the bed with help from physical therapists
• Write "I love you" to our mom on a whiteboard.

Although they may seem like baby steps, they bring us joy and hope that his recovery will continue strong. We know we still have a long way to go, but our dad is strong and has never been one to give in when things get tough.

We see the fighting spirit in him as he works hard each day to try to do more and more.

Thank you for always keeping us in your heart. We appreciate all the love!

Mom completes another year around the sun today. All she wants this year is for dad to continue to make strides toward recovery. Dad never missed a birthday, we know he's celebrating with us just in a different way this year, but next year we're sure he'll be the first to wish her a happy birthday. If you have a chance please stop by and show Emma some love today. It's not the birthday she hoped for, but we want to show her how loved she is by her family and her community.

As an update dad remains stable and no longer in ICU. He's being carefully monitored and we're so thankful to the doctors, nurses, and the many staff that continue to take care of him. Although dad remains in a coma hes making small strides toward recovery; such as breathing on his own. Recovery will be a long process but we are with him every step of the way.

Thank you to everyone who continues to check in. Thank you for the prayers, the donations, the encouraging words, the beautiful flowers, the heart filled written cards, and the continued support.

We're so grateful for all of the support Nicolas and Emma have received these past few days. We are thankful to the community for being patient with us and continuing to show us so much love.

As an update, our dad remains in the ICU. He had surgery last Thursday night without complications. He continues to be monitored closely by very amazing and kind hearted nurses and doctors and we are so thankful for their care. Right now all we can do is wait for him to come out of the coma and continue to make progress toward recovery. We remain strong and hopeful and know dad will open his eyes soon. We continue to tell him how loved he is and how much people miss him around the shop. We told him about all the flowers and cards he's received and how mom and his 3 girls are patiently waiting for him to open his eyes.
