What people say
Tail O' the Pup is a hot dog restaurant that has been a cultural landmark in Los Angeles since its opening. The restaurant's popularity can be attributed to its unique mimetic type architecture, which has captured the attention of Angelenos for years. The original owners, Frank Veloz and Yolanda Casazza, were noted dance team performers who sold Tail O’ the Pup to Eddie Blake in 1970.
Despite facing closure due to new construction projects in the mid-1980s, locals banded together to keep Tail O’ the Pup open and found a new home for the hot dog stand on San Vicente Blvd. In 2015, Kevin Michaels and Brett Doherty partnered with Jay, the grandson of Eddie Blake and his wife Nicole Miller, to renovate and re-open Tail O’ the Pup after it had closed its doors in 2005.
One of the most impressive things about Tail O' the Pup is that it has been a celebrity hotspot since its opening. Fans such as Aaron Spelling, Sigourney Weaver, Robert Redford, Barbara Streisand, Jay Leno, Robert Wagner, Billy Crystal, Richard Dreyfus, Lily Tomlin, Whoopie Goldberg and Magic Johnson have all visited this iconic restaurant over the years.
The restaurant has also appeared in many movies including Body Double and L.A. Story as well as Devo and The Go-Go’s music videos. With such an impressive history behind it, it's no wonder that Tail O' the Pup continues to attract visitors from all over Los Angeles.
If you're looking for a delicious hot dog joint with a rich history and celebrity appeal then look no further than Tail O' the Pup on Santa Monica Boulevard!
