Our neighborhood Second Saturday Strolls return to 87th Street this weekend on 05/09. Itโ€™s a peak Spring Thing to do and we hope to see you here! โ
โ
Weโ€™ll be grilling up Haw Mok Curry Mousse Stuffed Grilled Branzinos out front, clinking glasses with our Gin Yuzu Cocktail, tearing into Som Tum Artichokes, and finishing meals with our (notorious) B-I-G Lychee Dessert! The latter three you can expect all weekend long, including on Motherโ€™s Day. โ

Weโ€™re also opening up the patio for dinner reservations on Saturday the 9th. Snag yours on OpenTable to sit front row to the hustle + bustle of the Westchester Triangle. ๐ŸŽ‰

Every time you choose Ayara, you choose women-owned.

You choose two restaurant kids, one who grew up doing their elementary school homework in the dining room before the busy dinner rush, the other prepping for grad school between market runs.

You choose sisters who went off into the world, studying in New York, Connecticut, France, and Thailand, working in the most non-restaurant careers you can imagine (did you know Vanda worked for the UN?), restaurant jobs you very much can imagine (did you know Cathy did a stint at Mendocino Farms?), cooking and eating their ways through journeys that ultimately led them back here: to home.

You choose women who have taken the torch of restaurant ownership from their parents, who proudly cook the Thai Angeleno cuisine they want to, and who donโ€™t take it for granted a single day that we love what we do and do what we love. Even in an industry not designed for us as women to excel.

So today, before Womenโ€™s History Month officially ends, thank you from Chef Vanda and Chef Cathy, from our parents Anna and Andy, and our brother Peter, for supporting Ayara Thai, and for being a part of our personal womenโ€™s history. ๐Ÿ’š

03/11/2026

Buckle up, friends. Chef Cathy is breaking down the misunderstanding between the Western and Eastern concepts of spice today, inspired by a disappointed guest who weโ€™d love to fill in on our why. This oneโ€™s for you, Michelle!โ
โ
In the West, โ€œspiceโ€ usually means something additive. ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ In Thailand, spice is part of the balance of flavors (sweet, sour, salty, bitter, spicy) all working together.โ
โ
Some dishes arenโ€™t built to be dialed up or down because the spice isnโ€™t a topping . . . itโ€™s part of the architecture. Change the heat, and you change the soul of the dish. Also, you simply cannot always change the heat. Curry paste, for instance, is prepared in advance and canโ€™t be altered in a single bowl. โ
โ
Weโ€™ll always guide you. But sometimes the answer is: this is how itโ€™s meant to be. ๐Ÿ’š

03/03/2026

Ummmmm, holy DMโ€™s! This past weekend while we were cooking at the Art Fair in Santa Monica (more on that later), our messages were blowing up...because weโ€™ve been keeping a secret, and the takeout is out of the bag! ๐Ÿฅกโ
โ
Our family is nothing if not (lovingly) competitive, so when the producers of Guyโ€™s Grocery Games approached us about shooting a family episode of the show, it was an easy and automatic ๐˜บ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด! We brought our brother, Peter, out of restaurant hiding to join us sisters, and we put our skills of organizing, shopping, cooking, and team work to the test on the . For a few weeks before, we strategized and plannedโ€”weโ€™re talking Kevin McCallister blueprints styleโ€”made tactical presumptions about the layout of the store and what the judges might ask of us, and in the end weโ€™re so happy to (SPOILER ALERT) report that we took home the prize!๐Ÿฅ‡โ
โ
But above all, as trite as it sounds, we just had a great time, and we got to do it alongside other restaurant families who have so much in common with ours. Catch the episodeโ€™s rerun on Food Network and where the Asapahus are taking you to with .

Did you hear the news? supporting is officially back on April 19th after a 2025 hiatus, and we canโ€™t wait to greet you...

Chefโ€™s Table (yep, that Emmy-winning Netflix series!) teamed up with Airbnb to spotlight 70 standout culinary experiences around the world, and weโ€™re honored to be part of this global group, as well as the first Thai restaurant in Los Angeles tapped for the partnership.โ
โ
Our chef-led dinner series (hi, itโ€™s Vanda and Cathy!๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿณ) brings you behind the scenes for a shared evening of storytelling, getting your hands dirty (thatโ€™s right, weโ€™ll have you participate in creating a portion of the meal!), and experiencing the flavors that shape LA from our POV as Thai American chefs. Each seating is kept purposely smallโ€”just 12 guestsโ€”so we can cook together, connect deeply, and gather around the table over dishes inspired by the immigrant communities that shape our city, honored with Thai sensibilities.โ

Named โ€œa standout dish that reflects Andyโ€™s upbringingโ€ (hereโ€™s looking at you, Dad) by LA Times food critic Bill Addison, this dish started as a special and earned its place on our permanent menu nearly two years ago.โ

Letโ€™s face it, weโ€™re never cutting carbs. ๐Ÿ˜‹โ
โ
Thai food is actually an extraordinarily healthful cuisine because itโ€™s balanced by design: noodles and rice provide energy, a mix of proteins provides fuel, high vegetable content provides fiber, and herbs aid in digestion and creating a varied gut biome . . . and that doesnโ€™t even get into the micronutrient support. Somehow it does all that and still feels rich and comforting.โ
โ
Thai food forever goodbye. โœŒ๏ธ

Stick a fork in it (just not a chopstick, very bad form)โ€”2025 is done! โ
โ
Thank you for continuing to support this mom & pop business into her adulthood as we celebrated 21 years this past August; for bolstering us sisters, Vanda and Cathy, as we nurture our familyโ€™s restaurant into its second act; and for ordering Pad Thai nearly 24k times! Swipe through for a look back on some of your favorites and ours this year.

Weโ€™re always the first to say the awards that mean the most to us are the local ones and the ones voted on or bestowed by our guests and community . . . but as 2025 comes to a close weโ€™d be remiss to not acknowledge that recognitions like this matter too. โ
โ
Being included in the for the sixth year in a row and receiving our Bib Gourmand in 2019 is something we hold with equal parts pride and perspective. None of this happens without the people who choose to eat with us week after week, our team who delivers excellence and hospitality, our parents who had a dream and entrusted us to carry it forward, and the inspectors who see the intention behind what we do and take the time to check out our ex*****on. โ
โ
So thank you. For supporting a family restaurant built by immigrants, for supporting women owned, and for acknowledging that we serve from the heart. We do accept this recognition, like any, with pride!
