🎺 TONY GUERRERO & STRINGS — LIVE AT CAMPUS JAX in Newport Beach, California, is part of our Thursday Night Series, Steamers Jazz at JAX hosted by Terence Love & Tony Guerrero. Tonight, Tony, a trumpeter, flugelhornist, arranger, and producer brings his lyrical jazz style into an intimate chamber orchestra setting — rhythm section plus string quartet.

This is Tony Guerrero heard through a different lens.

The warmth and immediacy of trumpet and flugelhorn meet piano, bass and drums, surrounded by the color, movement and emotional sweep of four strings.

Since his first solo release in 1988, Guerrero has built a career stretching across contemporary jazz, composition, arranging, production and an extraordinary range of collaborations.

His musical world has included artists such as Freddie Hubbard, Arturo Sandoval, Tom Scott and Joe Sample, while his broader recording and production work has crossed paths with names including Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, Slash, Billy Idol, Chance the Rapper and Dick Van D**e.

Tonight also reconnects Tony with pianist Jeremy Siskind, his partner on the 2024 MetaJAX album Duo Tones.

Around them, an accomplished Los Angeles string quartet adds a chamber-music dimension to a rhythm section built for swing, color and conversation.

This is not jazz with strings added as decoration.

It is an ensemble built around what the strings make possible.

TONIGHT IS SOLD OUT at Campus JAX — but the room is still open online.

The Sam Morrison Band brings SOUTHERN ROCK EXPLOSION to Newport Beach — a high-energy journey through the music and spirit that emerged when Rock, Country, Blues and Jazz collided in the American South.

Expect the music of the bands that defined it: Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band, The Marshall Tucker Band and more.

But Southern Rock Explosion is more than a one-night collection of covers.

Sam Morrison has been carrying this concept forward for more than a decade, and the Sam Morrison Band has been making its own Southern Rock since 2000. The same six musicians also power Turn The Page, their nationally touring Bob Seger concert production. The band's official materials report more than 60 million global streams for Turn The Page recordings, 750,000 iTunes downloads and a featured appearance on AXS TV's World's Greatest Tribute Bands.

The Sam Morrison Band's original music has also appeared in television and film including Person of Interest, SEAL Team, Batwoman and In the Dark.

The Eagles Ronstadt Experience comes to Campus JAX for an evening celebrating the extraordinary music of The Eagles and Linda Ronstadt — two essential forces in the country-rock, folk-rock and California sound of the 1970s.

Built around outstanding lead vocals, rich multi-part harmonies, soulful guitars and a seasoned rhythm section, Eagles Ronstadt Experience doesn't simply revisit these songs — they bring back the musical chemistry that made them endure.

Expect a journey through the music associated with two remarkable catalogs, from soaring Eagles harmonies and guitar-driven classics to the power, vulnerability and unmistakable melodies of Linda Ronstadt.

JOEY SELLERS’ JAZZ AGGREGATION — LIVE FROM CAMPUS JAX

Tonight, composer and trombonist Joey Sellers brings his Jazz Aggregation to Campus JAX for an evening of original large-ensemble jazz — music that can swing hard, turn inward, and change shape without warning.

And tonight, something genuinely new happens:

Two World Premieres.

Sellers has spent decades exploring the territory between structure and freedom — writing music in which orchestration, color, improvisation and ensemble interaction are every bit as important as the soloist.

He has assembled an extraordinary Los Angeles band to bring that music to life:

Wayne Bergeron is one of the most celebrated lead and studio trumpeters of his generation, with more than 500 television and motion-picture soundtrack credits.

Alex Iles is one of Los Angeles' most in-demand trombonists and recording musicians, heard across jazz, orchestral music and hundreds of film and television scores.

And those are only two names in a band filled with musicians who spend their lives making other people's music sound great.

Tonight, they're here to play Joey Sellers' music.

ABOUT JOEY SELLERS
Joey Sellers is an award-winning composer, trombonist, pianist and educator whose honors include the Gil Evans Fellowship in Jazz Composition, Sammy Nestico Award and Julius Hemphill Award.

His music has been written for or performed by artists and ensembles including Doc Severinsen and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, along with symphony orchestras, chamber groups and jazz ensembles across the country.

He is Director of Jazz Studies at Saddleback College.

Joey's Jazz Aggregation has been a vehicle for his original large-ensemble writing since his early years in Los Angeles — music built around surprise, color, interaction and the constantly shifting line between composition and improvisation.

Tonight: The Ba*****ed 80's bring the ’80s unplugged to Campus JAX — featuring Greg Craycraft, frontman of Campus JAX favorite The Reflexx.

Take the greatest decade in pop culture, strip away the synthesizer walls and arena-sized production, hand everybody an acoustic instrument and invite the entire room to sing along. That’s The Ba*****ed 80’s.

Greg Craycraft, Doug Crandall and Norm Karns take on favorites spanning new wave, pop, rock, metal and even classic television themes—with acoustic arrangements, comedy, spontaneous audience interaction and the kind of everybody-knows-the-words energy that turns a concert into a party.

And if Greg looks familiar to Campus JAX regulars, there’s a very good reason.

Greg Craycraft is the vocalist/guitar frontman of The Reflexx, one of Campus JAX’s most popular ’80s acts and a recurring sellout on our stage. Tonight, Greg trades the full-band new-wave experience for something completely different: stripped down, spontaneous and built around the songs—and the audience.

The Ba*****ed 80’s repertoire has included music made famous by a-ha, Tears for Fears, The Church, INXS, Peter Schilling, John Mellencamp, Violent Femmes, When in Rome and many more.

**Grant Geissman — guitarist on Chuck Mangione’s landmark 1977 album *****Feels So Good***** and the musician behind the unforgettable guitar solo on its title track — joins Tom Marino on the Campus JAX stage.**

This is more than a tribute. It is a living musical connection to the music itself.

Veteran Los Angeles studio musician **Tom Marino** brings a lifetime of experience as a trumpeter, flugelhornist and educator to a project inspired by one of his greatest musical influences. His extensive recording work includes television favorites such as *Modern Family*, *Arrested Development* and *Northern Exposure*.

Together with an extraordinary band, Marino explores the melodic, cinematic and immediately recognizable sound that made Chuck Mangione one of the rare artists able to bridge jazz and popular music without compromising either — music that has remained beloved across generations.

The Mangione songbook includes classics such as **“Feels So Good,” “Children of Sanchez,” “Land of Make Believe,” “Chase the Clouds Away,” “Bellavia”** and **“Give It All You Got.”**
