Thomas Moraitis - your relative?
🇬🇷❤️ In 1976, 65 year old Stamatis Moraitis was diagnosed with lung cancer and given less than a year to live. After several doctors confirmed the diagnosis, Moraitis refused treatment and moved back to the blue zone Greek island of Ikaria in . Stamatis was born there and wanted to be buried with his ancestors. He reconnected with his faith walking to a tiny Greek Orthodox Church near his home. His childhood friends began visiting and they talked for hours, sharing a bottle or two of wine. Moraitis planted vegetables in a small garden even though he thought he wouldn't be around to harvest them. In the evening, he walked to the local tavern to play tavli (backgammon) with his friends. Over 3 decades later, on a trip to visit his children in the U.S., he tried to return to his doctors to see why he was still alive. "My doctors were all dead," he said. Moraitis passed away at the age of 102, 36 years after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. RIP Mr. Stamatis Moraitis Photo by Andrea Frazzetta The New York Times

What people say
Greek restaurants are known for their delicious and healthy cuisine, and The Greek Ventura is no exception. This family-owned restaurant has been serving up mouth-watering Mediterranean dishes since 1994, making it a staple in the Ventura Harbor community. In fact, The Greek Ventura has been voted Best Greek Food for Ventura County in 2013 and 2014, as well as most years since 1994.
One of the unique features of The Greek Ventura is its monthly Salsa Nightclub events that run from 9:30pm to 1:30am. This adds a fun and lively atmosphere to the already vibrant restaurant. And during the summer months, patrons can enjoy an expanded patio bar with fire pits, new furniture, and a new canopy.
But let's not forget about the food! The menu at The Greek Ventura is filled with traditional Mediterranean dishes like gyros, souvlaki, moussaka, and spanakopita. All of their dishes are made with fresh ingredients and bursting with flavor. And if you're looking for something on the lighter side, they also offer a variety of salads and vegetarian options.
Overall, The Greek Ventura is a must-visit for anyone who loves Mediterranean cuisine or just wants to experience a fun night out with friends or family. With its award-winning food and exciting events, it's no wonder why this restaurant has been a favorite in the community for over two decades.
