Welcome to EP 2 of my “One More Meal” series, where we honor loved ones lost to cancer by sharing their favorite meal and story.
You may recognize Chef Shirley Chung from TV, but behind the chef is a stage four tongue cancer survivor. After having part of her tongue removed, enduring brutal chemotherapy, and spending six months on a feeding tube, she found something unexpected during treatment... a sister.
Her name was Aubryn.
The two women met during chemo and radiation, fought cancer side by side, and became soulmates. They gave each other hope and both got to ring the bell. But soon after, Aubryn learned her cancer had spread, and she passed away.
This is more than a story about loss. It’s a story about love, friendship, and proof that we can turn our pain into purpose. The people we lose never truly leave us when we continue to tell their stories.
This One More Meal is dedicated to Aubryn, with heartfelt thanks to The Brother’s Sushi for helping us honor her memory.
June is National Cancer Survivor Month. If you could have one more meal with someone you loved and lost to cancer, what would it be? Share their story below. Maybe we’ll honor them in a future episode. ❤️ Shirley Chung TheBrothersSushiLA The Brothers Sushi Culver City Mark Okuda

Happy to team up with to present Daina x Brothers
A refreshingly crisp dry sake with a delicate aroma reminiscent of apples. It features a youthful yet smooth acidity with a moderate fullness and smooth mouthfeel. The clean taste harmonizes with a slight bitterness reminiscent of citrus fruit that blends the flavors.
Exclusively for Brothers 🍣

What people say
Sushi restaurants are known for their fresh and high-quality seafood, and The Brothers Sushi on Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles is no exception. They offer seasonal fresh fish from all around the world, making it a must-visit spot for sushi lovers. Their California Japanese Cuisine is a unique blend of traditional Japanese flavors with a Californian twist.
One of the highlights of The Brothers Sushi is their seasonal Omakase Chefs C, which allows diners to experience the chef's choice of dishes using the freshest ingredients available. Additionally, they recently hosted a meet and greet event with Richard Geoffroy, legendary brewery master and former Chef de Cave of Dom Pérignon. The event featured an Omakase dinner paired with Chef Mark Okuda's creations and IWA Sake by Geoffroy.
The restaurant also regularly posts about their latest offerings on social media, such as Striped Beakfish "ishidai" from Kyushu and Katsuo Bonito from Chiba Japan. Whether you're looking for a special occasion or just craving some delicious sushi, The Brothers Sushi is definitely worth checking out.
