Cookies and a glass of cold milk have been doing fine together for about a hundred years, so we did not try to improve the idea, we just changed the form. Chocolate Chip Softserve stands in for the milk, chocolate chip cookies and fudge are layered through it, and a graham cracker crust holds the whole thing together under whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and graham crumble. In 1908 a Newark candy maker named Kolb dipped a few apples in red cinnamon candy and set them in his shop window for Christmas. Customers wanted the apples more than the candy, so he sold them for a nickel, and from there they made their way to the boardwalk, the circus, and every fair since. In 2026 we decided to capture that flavor in a Softserve. Candied Apple, on the menu for the first time.

Flavors of the week: Oatmeal Cookie and Mint. Oatmeal Cookie brings the rich, nutty side of oats with a little molasses, cinnamon, and vanilla, and it tastes so much like the cookie that grandma may want to compare notes. Mint is cool and clean. Think of the mint chip you grew up on, take out the chips, and let the mint do all the work.

You want that lift from a great cup of coffee, but it's way too hot outside. Problem solved. We teamed up with our friends at Loquat Coffee on the Cold Brew Float, their Costa Rica Matanilla, a medium light roast grown in the Central Valley and roasted right here in Los Angeles, poured over Magpies Softserve. On the menu now at all three shops.

Flavors of the week: Black Sesame and Fudgesicle. If you've never had black sesame, think of the toasty, roasted depth of peanut butter, then take it somewhere darker and a little more grown up. And if you ever chased an ice cream truck down the block with a fistful of your parents' change, hoping you weren't too late for a chocolate Fudgesicle, you already know the other one. This time nobody has to run.

Drumstick Softserve Pie is back on the menu. Brown Sugar Vanilla Softserve layered with caramel, fudge and waffle peanut bark, topped with whipped cream and toasted peanuts, all in a graham cracker crust. If you were the kid who saved the bottom of the cone for last, this one is for you, and the best part is in every bite.

Flavors of the week: Maple Bourbon and Cappuccino. Fall officially started yesterday, but the thermometer hasn't gotten the memo, so we've decided to stop waiting on it. Maple Bourbon is maple syrup and Kentucky bourbon, with notes of oak, brown sugar and caramel. Cappuccino is espresso, milk and Softserve, three great things that belong together. Consider this our formal invitation to the season, delivered cold, which is the only way anyone wants it right now.

We took the sandwich out of the lunchbox and put it in a cup. The strawberries here are roasted until the flavor intensifies, sweet up front with a tart edge underneath. The peanut butter is roasted and salted, balancing the strawberries' sweetness. Together they taste like the one you ate at nine, minus the bread. Roasted Strawberry and Peanut Butter, on the menu now and quite possibly the perfect swirl.

If you prefer driving, take the 5 Freeway and exit at Los Feliz Boulevard. Then make a left onto Griffith Park Boulevard where you'll find parking options along the street or in nearby lots.
