SUGARFISH opens today in San Diego’s Little Italy!
For those discovering SUGARFISH for the first time, the experience is deliberate by design: sushi served immediately upon preparation, at the moment it’s meant to be eaten. A balance of texture, temperature, and timing consistently delivers the perfect bite. As Chef Nozawa said many years ago, "Stay true to what you believe. The rest will take care of itself."
Built on the legacy of Sushi Nozawa, the iconic Studio City restaurant that operated from 1987 to 2012 and set the standard for traditional Japanese sushi in America. That foundation, a dedication to simplicity, precision, and an uncompromising commitment to quality, continues to guide every element of the SUGARFISH experience today.
“Every decision we make starts with the fish. That standard has never changed, and it never will. We even created our own wholesale fish company to ensure we are getting the best fish from anyone, anywhere, at any time. Guests are going to taste that commitment from the very first bite” -co-founder Tom Nozawa
Now open daily from 11:30am – 10:00pm.

Tomorrow, SUGARFISH opens in San Diego’s Little Italy. After years of countless requests, San Diego residents can finally experience Nozawa-style sushi.
SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa opens Thursday, May 21 at 2100 Kettner Blvd., bringing San Diego the uncompromising commitment to sourcing and quality that defines every bite.
Embodying the philosophy of celebrated sushi chef Kazunori Nozawa and his son, co-founder Tom Nozawa, the original idea was simple: bring the sushi Chef Nozawa spent a lifetime perfecting to more Americans.
“Quality drives every decision we make. Growing thoughtfully lets us source better fish and, ultimately, serve a better bite. We’re incredibly grateful to our San Diego guests who’ve made the trip to dine with us in Los Angeles and Orange County over the years, and we’re genuinely thrilled to finally bring that experience to Little Italy.” -Co-Founder Lele Massimini
