We are permanently closed but if you need Scandinavian products there's the Swedish/ Norwegian church in San Pedro, Shoops in Santa Monica, Huset in Venice, Berolina bakery, Shreiners sausage both in LaCanada or nearby. God Jul!

We are moved out and closed for who knows? Thanks for all the support through the years. Shoops and the Swedish/Norwegian church might have a lot of the Scandinavian products.

Just to let you know that we probably won't reopen anytime soon or in the same location. I've been trying to figure out something for the last year plus but unfortunately it doesn't look good. Thanks for all the support. There's Shoops in Santa Monica, Copenhagen Pastry in Culver city, Berolina bakery and also online stores. You can still get candy at
Scandinavian candy free from GMO’s, trans fats and high fructose corn syrup. Vegan options available.

Hi,
I am sorry to announce that I haven’t been able to re-open Olsons. As it looks now, I simply don’t have the time to manage it the way it deserves. So I am looking to partner up with someone who has the time to manage Olsons or if someone is interested in buying Olsons. I would hate to see it close down for good, this place means so much to so many people, not just the Scandinavian community but also the Americans have come to enjoy our delicious food and specialties.
Please let me know if you or anyone you know might be interested to keep Olsons alive. DM me or Neda Zeighami.
Thanks!
Best Regards
Christian Kneedler

Thank you so much for all your support so far, for the private messages and donations and to all of you who have taken time out of your day to come in to Olsons with words of support and kindness.
There are many questions, of course, what your donations would be used for ;
In taking over the business there is an ongoing struggle and process to keep the premises up to code. Yes,it would be easier to move to a more modern location, but we really want to keep Olsons in its original location. Since we are trying to preserve its original charm we are trying to restore the original deli fridges so that we can use them again. If we can't get them up and running, they will have to be removed, and we really want to avoid that since they are a big part of Olsons heritage.
We are still trying to recover from the 5 (FIVE!!) break-ins that we have had in the last 4 years. Along with stolen inventory, stolen cash registers, broken doors and destroyed store windows, we are still reeling.
We are trying to get permits so that we can cook more food for our community and neighborhood, besides just sandwiches and salads. On our list is also permits, per so many of you, so that we may serve beer and wine while you eat and shop.
Lastly, a small note about importing. To import food from Scandinavia is not for the faint of heart. The amount of restrictions from FDA, customs fees and transportation costs will all be reflected in the price. OF COURSE it will be more expensive to buy a Swedish or Danish item in a small store in Los Angeles than it is in your regular store "back home". Furthermore, we will never be able to compete with IKEA'S prices since they buy in millions and have their own shipping containers. We love IKEA, but we hope you would consider supporting a small business instead.
Thank you for your help and support.

What people say
Olsons Scandinavian Deli is a true gem in the heart of Los Angeles. With almost 70 years in the same location, it's a piece of LA history that has delighted locals and visitors alike with its delicious Scandinavian sandwiches, sweets, and delicatessens. Although the deli has unfortunately closed permanently, there are still plenty of options to get your fix of Scandinavian products in the area. Shoops in Santa Monica, Copenhagen Pastry in Culver City, Berolina Bakery, and online stores are just a few examples. Olsons will be missed dearly, but its legacy lives on through the many satisfied customers who have enjoyed its offerings over the years.
