We first came across the Champagnes of Romain Henin at Delicatessen Cave a few years ago. And while it might have been the whimsical labels that drew us in, it was most definitely the wine inside that kept us engaged.
Like so many of his generation, Romain returned to his family's estate and set out to reform its farming practices back in 2013. It was a bit rocky of a return, though, and after more fits than starts, Romain only finally took over the family vines, along with his brother Thomas,in 2021.
His Champagnes are vibrant and racy with ample fruit, showcasing the terroir of the Marne Valley through clean farming, traditional vinification, and a zero zero approach in the cellar -- incredibly unusual for the area, where big houses intent on blending and uniformity dominate.
As with many of our favorite bottles, though, scarcity is an issue. While we are happy to have tracked down a few bottles of Henin for our cellar, until recently there has been no US importer of record for Henin.
Luckily, this is changing and we'll soon be able to get our hands on bottles from Henin's 'La Bulle Libre', both Champagne and cider, care of our friends at . Cheers to that!

For those who prefer a quiet night at home on Valentine's Day we've put together goodie bags available for pick up at the bar on 2/14. They'll include a bottle of either Champagne (Lassaigne!) or Cremant (Ronces!), a market floral bouquet care of our lovely neighbors, , and our x Bar Etoile tote bag. And maybe some heart shaped pâtes de fruits for good measure.
Whether celebrating solo or with others, this is the perfect kit for the evening.
Pre-orders end on 2/6. Link in bio
