Lets Meet the Ladies behind the Mask
Hi Team DCP Fans!
If you haven't heard our story, grab a cup of coffee and a cake pop, because here we go..
My partner and I started this business with $300 and a really good idea in the Valley (a suburb just outside of LA). Tired of doing our daily grind, we knew we had to hustle this hard for ourselves. So we did. Now, it wasn't all glamorous, remember, we only had $300... no culinary or business background, but we are both strong-minded women with a really good idea. With a palette for food, a thirst for booze, an eye for design, and persistence that borderline stubbornness, we marched on.
For the next few years we ran with the pop up scene, such underground markets, small community events, even backyard sales. We took all the profits (the little it was at first) and sold to friends and family, then into bigger events like Street Food Cinema, Cookie Con, Foodie Con, and even landing a small kiosk in San Pedro at Crafted Port of LA.
We were so blown away, that we had to enter a commercial kitchen and hire staff to help with production. Becoming a staple at local markets like Urban Hive in Long Beach, Street Food Cinema in LA, Jackalope in Burbank, and huge Night Markets up and down California, we finally saved up to open our first Brick in Mortar in Rancho Cucamonga at the Victoria Gardens Mall.
We made it! So we thought... Our joy quickly turned to panic as Covid introduced itself. With the first lock down looming during out buildout, we prayed to land our soft open as that first lock down lifted. With a quick breath of hope, we nailed the soft open, only to be shortly followed by another lock down and now a staff of 7 to keep on. Somehow, Sara and I led our team out of that first Pandemic year, and buckled up for the second. Despite the hurdles, and there were and continue to be many, we turned our $300 and an idea in Drunken Cake Pops.
Our story may not be uncommon, or the most glamorous, but it is one that we are proud to have. Always the underdog, we truly believe to be an example of that American Dream you have to just go for. So if you are thinking of starting your own business, but never know when the right time is...
this is your sign. We did it, you can too!
Cheers! Eat Responsibly.
