”Bringing their own chairs from home“
just to sit and enjoy a coffee!
Why carry their own chairs?
Back in 1994, the local coffee scene (Jones Coffee) was so popular that seats were never enough.
But instead of just ”grabbing and going,“
locals chose to lug their own folding chairs,
lawn chairs, or old wooden seats from home.
They’d set them up in circles outside the shop,
creating a lively community hub.
Why call them ”Talking Chairs“?
In Pasadena, coffee has always been a ”conversation starter.“ Those mismatched chairs weren’t just for sitting—they were for opening dialogues,
