Developed in America during colonial times and evolving from traditional fermented herbal teas and low-alcohol "small beers," the frothy, sweet beverage we know as "root beer" is deeply ingrained in American history, with its timeline spanning from indigenous practices to modern bottled sodas!
๐บ
The first marketed root beer was invented by Philadelphia pharmacist Charles Hires, who debuted his dry root tea mixture at the 1876 Centennial Exposition!
๐บ
It's no surprise that root beer became even more popular during prohibition when many distilleries turned to making soda. In fact, Hires Root Beer - one of the most popular root beers ever - was sold here at Chili John's up to the point that it was sadly no longer available due to corporate consolidation by Hires' parent company.
๐บ
We bring all of this up because today is National Root Beer Day and Chili John's currently has five different root beers (from three classic brands) for you to choose from - and none of them use high-fructose corn syrup!
๐บ
Naturally, we think you should eventually try them all! (and discover your favorite!)

A 26-year-old Carolyn Jones pauses to refresh after filming Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much" playing Cindy Fontaine and Siegel's "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" playing Theodora Belicec - and still years before we would all know her as Julie Rawlings or, most of all, Morticia Addams!
We've got the real thing here - made with pure cane sugar (instead of high-fructose corn syrup) but unlike Miss Jones, you will need to smoke your cigarette outside ๐

The "Black Cow" drink - also known as a root beer float - originated in Colorado and was invented in 1893 by Frank J. Wisner, who was the owner of the Cripple Creek Brewing Company...
๐
Originally named a "Black Cow Mountain" by Wisner in honor of the local peak, the name got abbreviated by the public as it became more poplular...
๐
The drink has many variations - including one where a teaspoon of chocolate syrup is added - but its deliciousness lies in its simplicity: just cold root beer topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! A perfect combination!
๐
The drink is celebrated every year on this day and we're celebrating by also offering a deal: buy one black cow and get one for your friend for half off!

We use Hรคagen-Dazs vanilla and have 5 excellent root beers to choose from! What are you waiting for?

If you've not tried our blueberry malt, then we really don't know what to say about that.
Other than you don't know what you're missing.
(and it's *not* made with 'blueberry' ice cream ๐)
