Death by Train - The Spice Table's Last Supper
The Spice Table is serving its last supper December 31, 2013. The Metro Transportation Authority (MTA) will be demolishing our beautiful and storied brick building to make way for a shiny new underground subway station. We are still in the process of looking for a suitable relocation site in Downtown or adjacent for the rebirth of The Spice Table.
In the meantime, Kim & I are overjoyed that we are teaming up with Josh & Zoe (Rustic Canyon, Huckleberry, Milo & Olive, and Sweetrose Creamery) to open a restaurant in Santa Monica during summer 2014. We're still working through the details of the new restaurant, but the food will be influenced by the flavors of Southeast Asia and the culinary heritages of Kim and myself.
Regarding the closing of The Spice Table, I've already gone through the gamut of emotions: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Kim and I opened The Spice Table with no expectations beyond sharing the flavors of Southeast Asia to as many people as possible. The response to what we were cooking and the environment we created exceeded what we ever hoped for. Your support of The Spice Table has helped me grow as a person and a Chef. I hope that The Spice Table has added to the diverse culinary landscape of Los Angeles, expanding the dialogue of Asian cuisine beyond simply Chinese, Japanese, or Korean food. In whatever direction or form The Spice Table takes, I am honored to be a part of something that my staff and I are proud of.
Please check out my Instagram/Twitter account at for updates of our progress, photos of our food, and the occasional picture of my dog Theodore Roosevelt (aka "Teddy"). Come by and have some Spice Table food before the train runs us over...

We're sorry to say that due to tonight's unexpected neighborhood blackout, The Spice Table will be closed for the remainder of the evening. Our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. For those we've talked to, thank you for being so cool with our situation and for those of you on your way, we wish we had the "power" to serve you. Hope to see you all for Saturday's brunch or dinner very soon.

The Spice Table is a Singaporean restaurant that has left a lasting impression on its patrons. The restaurant's Southeast Asian cuisine inspired by Singapore and Vietnam is nothing short of amazing. The dishes are flavorful, aromatic, and authentic, making it one of the best places to experience the taste of Singapore in Los Angeles.
Although the restaurant has closed due to the Metro Transportation Authority demolishing their building, The Spice Table was known for its delicious lamb ribs with cumin, chile, and mustard served with burrata and sambal marinated eggplant. They also offered classic American brunch items, Asian specialties, and some dinner favorites during their Saturday brunch.
The restaurant's commitment to quality extends beyond their food. They have an impressive selection of Mikkeller bottled beers that complement their dishes perfectly. Additionally, they were known for participating in events like Restaurant Week and Food GPS Rib Festival.
Overall, The Spice Table was a gem in Little Tokyo that will be missed dearly. Their dedication to serving authentic Southeast Asian cuisine made them stand out from other restaurants in Los Angeles.
