1 week left… or 1 more week…

MERCI ! MERCI ! MERCI !

We would like to tell you how surprised we remain for 3 weeks, since we announced that Chocolatine is closing at the end of the month because we could not afford an overstated raise of our rent after nearly 10 years of loyalty. Indeed, we were not aware of the popularity of our Café, that many of you even call a “gem in our community”. We don’t have the words to express how bittersweet our feelings are to see so many of you coming over to support us, to hug us, and even to cry with us…. We get thank you cards, flowers, we take selfies... This is a big part of our life that is going away, a lot of work, memories, laughs, tears, and now, we realize (too late…) that Chocolatine was important to more people that we thought…

So, as a quick reminder, our last day will be Sunday, 27th, and we welcome you to have one last bite in your favorite Café. Then we will have a couple of days to move out…. We hope to see all the people who read that message ….

Also, a question came to us many, many times: are we going to be able to move to another location?

I am sorry to tell you that, in the near future, we don’t think that we will be able to move Chocolatine to a new location. Indeed, the costs to build, the time to get the permits and the unrealistic price of commercial lease in our area now make that hope impossible… We lost our Chocolatine….

Dear Chocolatine Family,

Well, we’ve been holding on this info for 4 days now, trying to find the right words to tell you the saddest news we have for our business, this sort we never thought we had to share one day … This is not easy so here goes…

It is with a heavy heart, a foggy mind, and a lot of tears, that we have to say, “Au Revoir”. Chocolatine French Café will be closing its doors and having its last day of operation on Sunday, August 27th. Indeed, after 9 years, our lease has come to an end, and new terms could not be negotiated with our landlord, since he was asking more than 30% increase (on gross lease) immediately, then 5% every year, until we could probably take no more…

We wish we could inform you before, but we just got a 30-day notice to quit last Monday, which makes this situation even sadder since it doesn’t give us a lot of days to spend some great moment together….

This situation is unfair, since we have already done our best to stay successful for the last 3 years during Covid, without any discount on our rent, after even getting a 10% increase when the pandemic started.

We are furious since we truly love our café. We wish we could reverse this situation but unfortunately, it is impossible since the demolition will start next month to be ready for a new business, who, despite knowing the situation, took the opportunity to get our place without compassion.

We will keep you updated about the plan on our last days of business. We are open to any suggestions to make this memorable.

Merci for the almost 10 years that you’ve enjoyed life with us, while almost forgetting that Chocolatine was a business…. It felt like being at home!

We wish we could find better words for this, but we just can’t.
