HOW WE GOT HERE:
After the Echo Park location took off, Barragan’s expanded to Glendale in 1981 and Burbank in 1985. The Echo Park and Glendale locations retired in 2013 and 2019.

Founder Ramon’s son, Armando, has played an active role in the restaurants for 60 years and was instrumental in opening Glendale and Burbank! In 2000, Armando assumed ownership. For many years, Armando’s beloved wife, Rose, was also a fixture in Burbank. Sadly Rose passed away in 2024 and Ramon in 2025.

Armando’s children, Armando Jr. and Michael, are determined to continue the legacy for years to come. Armando has four grandchildren: Juliana, Ayvah, Noah and Maximiliano! The Barragan family is 4️⃣ generations strong!

HOW WE GOT HERE: In 1961, Ramon Barragan took over a small coffee shop in Echo Park with his wife, Grace. Barragan’s opened on Sunset Blvd. the year before Dodger Stadium had its first game! The success of Barragan’s led to more expansion as people fell in love with Ramon’s authentic Mexican dishes. The restaurant wound up eventually taking over neighboring businesses and even added a second floor banquet room. Barragan’s became a Los Angeles institution. This location retired in late 2013. Ramon’s recipes live on in Burbank and many of the same customers have followed us over the years who now come in with their children and grandkids sharing their Echo Park memories!

What people say

Mexican restaurants are known for their vibrant flavors, colorful dishes, and warm hospitality. Barragan's Mexican Restaurant on N Victory Boulevard in Burbank is a perfect example of this. This family-style restaurant has been serving delicious Mexican cuisine for over 62 years, and it's no surprise that they have become a local favorite.

One of the best things about Barragan's is their Taco Monday special. For just $1.75, you can enjoy hard shell tacos filled with your choice of beef, chicken, or potato all day long. And if you're looking for a great deal on drinks, be sure to stop by on Wednesdays when regular margaritas are only $4.75 and fruit margaritas are $5.75.

But it's not just the specials that make Barragan's stand out. Their menu is full of classic Mexican dishes like albondigas soup, cocido, pozole, menudo, and chicken soup - perfect for those chilly days when you need something warm and comforting.

And if you're feeling adventurous, try the milanesa - a breaded steak that is sure to please even the pickiest eaters. With six days of operation each week (closed on Tuesdays), there's always an opportunity to visit Barragan's and indulge in their delicious food.

Overall, Barragan's Mexican Restaurant is a must-visit spot for anyone who loves authentic Mexican cuisine served in a welcoming atmosphere. The Barragan family has been doing it right for over six decades - so why not see what all the fuss is about?
