We’ve launched something special to support LA fire relief efforts. 100% of proceeds will be donated to the LAFD Foundation, which supports LA firefighters, and the Labelle Foundation, a foster-based animal rescue dedicated to saving and rehabilitating animals in need.

Today, we’re celebrating 77 incredible years since Mel Weiss opened the very first Mel’s Drive-In at 140 South Van Ness in San Francisco. That’s right…77 years of unforgettable memories! You might even recognize this iconic spot from George Lucas’ 1973 classic American Graffiti!

From a groundbreaking carhop restaurant to becoming a beloved staple, Mel’s has been serving up smiles and good vibes since day one. Now, three generations of the Weiss family later, a tried and true family run restaurant, we’re still going strong—thanks to YOU, our amazing community!

The road hasn’t always been easy, but your loyalty and love have kept us trucking for over seven decades. We couldn’t be more grateful for our Mel’s family— our regulars, and everyone who’s been part of this journey, past, present, and future.

Here’s to 77 years of great food, classic vibes, and countless memories! Thank you for being part of the journey. Let’s keep it rolling!

To get to the restaurant located on Ventura Boulevard in Los Angeles, there are several options for public transport. One way is to take the Metro bus line which runs along Ventura Boulevard and stops at various locations. Another option is to take the Metro Red Line subway to North Hollywood station, and transfer to either the 150 or 240 bus line that travels down Ventura Blvd.

If you prefer driving, take Ventura Boulevard and look for parking. There are limited metered street parking available, as well as several paid parking lots in the area.
