For so long Uganda’s Agriculture sector has enjoyed a free market economy where trade has been influenced by the laws of demand and supply but it has come as a surprise and heartbreaking news to Ugandans especially those involved directly and indirectly in the coffee sector business. Government of Uganda through the ministry of finance planning and economic development purportedly signed a memorandum of understanding with an Italian investor a one Enrica and gave her exclusive rights over the export of our coffee. She has been given a tax holiday and many other incentives that Ugandan traders have never seen or enjoyed. This will not only kill the coffee business but also demoralize coffee farmers because they will be at the mercy of this monopsonist who will determine the coffee prices. Uganda’s coffee sector has now been plunged into monopsony. Monopsony is a term that refers to a single buyer controlling or dominating the demand for goods and services. This signifies conditions of imperfect competition in which a single entity (Enrica) will influence what would otherwise be a free market operating under the laws of demand and supply. To put it in a different version the terms monopoly and monopsony (mono) or single being a dominant force in a marketplace that disrupts the usual buying-selling equilibrium. An individual seller controls a market monopoly while a single buyer dominates a market monopsony. Monopsony arises when individuals or corporate groups are able to position themselves as the sole purchasers of a particular good or service. I really wonder why the current permanent secretary of the ministry of finance. Ramathan Ggoobi an economist can’t help the country interpret these phenomena that have negative and lethal impacts on our economy. Where is parliament in this whole issue? Have they buried their heads in the sand or they are thinking about the next election forgetting the next generation? Where are all the planners and economists of this country? I got shocked when I saw the signature of Ramathan a once vocal and straight-talking economist. Is it because was appointed to that docket to keep quiet? Where are the pieces of advice he used to give to the government? This unfortunate thing has come barely a year since the parliament of Uganda revised the old coffee law to come up with a new law that will help the country achieve the dream of producing 20 million bags of coffee per year by 2030 and the coffee road map was launched by the president to that effect. This law would also help control the coffee value chain from the seed to the cup (final consumer), controlling the on-farm and off-farm coffee activities but if we as a country have decided to donate our coffee sector to an Italian then the new law was meant for one monopsonist. Why would the coffee farmer in Bukomansimbi, Bugoye in Kasese, Mabira in Kyenjojo, Mbale in Bugisu waste his time producing more coffee for one buyer countrywide to determine how much he will offer per kilo or pound? Is this the backbone of Uganda’s economy that we used to know and talk about? Why are we so hospitable to the visitors to the extent of offering them our coffee sector? By the way, is the budget allocated to the agriculture sector even enough to move it where we want it? How shall we feed the ever-increasing world population if we allocate meager resources to the most productive sector of our country? Why have we failed to follow the Maputo declaration on how much percent to allocate to the agriculture sector? Are we not ratified to the Malabo declaration of 10 to 15% to the agriculture sector? Have we even ever reached 5%? Where is the problem? I wish this document that is circulating on social media was a hoax as the minister of agriculture twitted on his official Twitter handle then we would thank God but it is real. We are entrusting our main export commodity with dealers unknown to us. It is ashame. We need to save the coffee sector and the millions of beneficiaries that it feeds. You can’t be merciful to your neighbor's children when yours are starving to death in the house. For God and my country. Hon Dr. Lawrence Akugizibwe (Ph.D.)

Coffee!
Coffee has never bean Better than yesterday, farmers and value addition players know more than ever before about growing and value addition, Coffee has access to more of life in addition to production skills, roasters and retailers or Millers have never before been so likely to be thankful and know the importance of the freshly selected or harvested coffee could have an impact on the cup or should understand the rights from the farming GAPs.

To some countries that have embraced technology and attitude many changes have taken place, state of the art working tools are being manufactured and so the cafes selling really good coffees can be to tell the story.

The effective staff training, consumers have a choice towards who practices the better Brewing behaviors also seen as a Paramount condition to Industrialist players as they claim a golden age in the past, but I firmly do believe coffee has got to pick to quality so as an exciting times ahead.

Demand of consumers are now starting to engage at every point of destination with their hopes tagged to good quality Coffee, prompting the industrial players to change so that it is better and able to tell the difference of where Coffee come from, how it tastes, sourced and perhaps why it's bitter in anyway.

African countries into production has seen it all and it's a blessing that it came with, coffee has been a staple product in their lives for hundred of years but never before there has been some interests.
The caffeine Industry is enormous and has grown around the world With efforts to merging Into other soft drinks eg red bull and billions of cups close to 2.25 consumed every day, today statistics tells us 120 million people depends on coffee production for main livelihoods, and it's consumed in every part of the world, Coffee is intertwined with both social/ economic cultures histories of so many countries yet very few Coffee drinkers have the past scratched the surface to see what is underneath.

The Coffee Industry globally is separated today based on certain origins and we have two distinct levels known as " Commodity and Specialty" in quotes.
In short specialty these are beans that are defined by their cup quality of cup behaviors, got good taste and are originally traced well as Commodity Coffees are described as beans that are not known and consumed and traded on the quality but considered simply to be just "Coffee" where simplest is not affecting players in the market where it's grown does not matter much or when they were harvested or how they were purchased. Commodity Coffees has defined the way on how Coffee is graded, sold brewed worldwide by Katabazi
